HEALTH and ENVIRONMENT Care (HEC) is
a Community Based Organization established in 2013 and registered in 2016. HEC
is an established agency that works to transform societies to achieve health
environmental and human development. The organization is headquartered in Lira
town, in Northern Uganda.
HEC was established with the major
purpose to respond to the poor health conditions of rural communities and
haphazard and careless use of the environment that supports the living
conditions of the people.
The organization’s niche is in the
areas of Primary Health Care (PHC), Agriculture and Environmental Conservation
to improve the health and livelihood of children, youth and adults through
integrating indigenous science, indigenous knowledge and culture, and building
bridges between modern and traditional systems of health care and environmental
care and preservation.
HEC is a leading organization in the
promotion and advocacy for protection of the environment and health, with a
unique model that integrates health and the environment.
HEC’s major focus is innovations and
new opportunities in health and environment care initiatives. In the
environment sector, HEC programs also focuses at threats that emerge as result
of climate change and its impact on the communities in Uganda and strives for
innovations that encourage cleaner and more environmentally friendly, healthy
sustainable consumption and production by the people. In addition, as the
people of Uganda adapt to the new changes and challenges of health and climate
change, they are also seeking accurate and up-to-date information about the
state of the environment to help them make better decisions in all aspects of
their lives.
